The shift- In 1994 there were over 20 million visits made to doctors of chiropractic by children, in 2004 these numbers have doubled, and continue to rise. More and more parents are seeking alternative forms of healthcare for their children after becoming frustrated with the current model of healthcare. Instead of raising our children with a wellness preventative mentality we have become a nation that is reactive instead of pro-active. With computer use, book bag size on the rise nationally many children have found themselves suffering from neuro-muskuloskeletal conditions that traditional healthcare practitioners find themselves helpless to address.

Who? Doctors of Chiropractic have found themselves in a unique position to help establish a new movement of health conscious young people. Parents have joined their efforts in the last few years as we have seen childhood obesity rates on the increase, as well adulthood diseases migrate into younger and younger populations.

When? In most cases parents have started their children immediately after birth due to the trauma that is usually involved. These adjustments to the spine are performed very differently from adult treatments. Dr. Saggar is a certificate holder in Pediatric and Obstetrics chiropractic that was achieved post-graduate. Dr. Saggar cares for most of the pediatric visits in our office and has extensive diet, and health information at hand and also works very closely with local pediatricians. Many parents themselves have experienced benefits greater then just pain-relief and have had the foresight to give their children a healthy head start. Her youngest patient was merely two days old and continues to be seen.

Why? Children who have a suspect scoliosis (an aberrant lateral progressive curvature of the spine) have often been brought into the office with progressively worsening curves to have them not only slow down but in some cases regression. We help the parents of these children not only establish healthy lifestyles, but also promote activity to better strengthen and stabilize the spine this improving overall health and vitality.
Parents bring their children into the office for more then spinal conditions, but non-spinal conditions such as Attention Deficit Disorder, allergies, sports performance, ear infections (otitis media), and many other conditions. More recent research has shown the favorable impacts on these and various other ailments through not only chiropractic treatment, but also dietary changes. We are always willing to discuss a parents concerns about their children, and work closely with local pediatricians.

Does it hurt? One of the most frequent questions we are asked is "Will it hurt?". Children are blessed in the sense that they have less inner stress in their muscle groups which in adults causes the adjustment "soreness" that is sometimes reported. In most cases children are relaxed and hardly even notice that anything was done at all due to the light touch and lack of muscle binding, in fact some fall asleep on the table!
